Hybrid, 3 days in office Position Overview We are seeking an experienced tax preparer to join our growing tax practice. This is a hands-on tax preparation position, not a management or primarily review role. The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of professional tax preparation experience, with 10 or more years strongly preferred, and is comfortable taking responsibility for preparing individual and business tax returns from start to finish. We are looking for someone who enjoys the technical and practical aspects of tax preparation, can work independently, and takes pride in producing accurate, well-supported returns. Responsibilities Prepare federal and state income tax returns for individuals and businesses. Prepare a variety of returns, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120-S and 1120, as applicable. Accurately enter and reconcile tax information from client-provided documents and prior-year returns. Research and apply federal and state tax rules to client situations. Identify potential tax issues, deductions, credits and planning opportunities. Communicate with clients when additional information or clarification is needed. Prepare workpapers and maintain appropriate documentation supporting tax return positions. Review your own completed returns for accuracy and completeness before submission for final review. Meet established deadlines during tax season while maintaining quality and attention to detail. Stay current with changes in federal and state tax law.
Qualifications Required:
Minimum 5 years of professional tax preparation experience. Strong knowledge of individual and business taxation. Ability to prepare returns independently with limited supervision. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to research unfamiliar tax issues and reach well-supported conclusions. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Proficiency with professional tax preparation software.
Preferred:
10+ years of tax preparation experience. CPA, EA or other professional tax credential. Experience with New Jersey and New York taxation. Experience preparing S corporation and partnership returns. Experience with complex individual returns, including Schedule C, Schedule E, K-1s, capital transactions, rental real estate and investment income. Experience with UltraTax CS or similar professional tax software. Important — This Is a Preparation Position This position is intended for someone who likes preparing tax returns and wants to remain hands-on. We are not primarily seeking a tax manager, administrative manager or full-time reviewer. The successful candidate should be comfortable actually preparing returns, working through tax issues, entering data, researching questions and completing returns from beginning to end.
