Job Description

Senior Tax Preparer $80,000-$100,000 base + production bonus ($115K-$130K realistic) Vancouver, WA
  • Hybrid, 2-3 days in office
  • Full-time
  • No weekends Forgent is a specialty recruiter for financial services firms.
Our client is an established CPA firm in the Portland metro, serving small business and individual clients. You'd inherit 150-200 individual returns on day one. A 13-year colleague is retiring, and whoever takes this seat takes over their $200,000 book, clients already serviced and ready. That book alone puts you most of the way to the production bonus before you add a single client. You're producing in week one. Three reasons to keep reading They haven't worked a weekend in years. Not even Saturdays during tax season. The firm turns work away rather than overcommit, which is the reason the steady pace holds. The bonus is arithmetic, not a carrot. The threshold starts at 2.75x base, and the inherited book already puts you at roughly 2.6x on day one. Adding about 30 returns clears it, and everything above pays out at 25-30%. Tax clients renew, so every client you add compounds into next year's number. Nobody stands over your shoulder. Six-person firm, clear lanes, no politics, no review committee. You own the clients, you run your own queue. You're also client-facing throughout — meetings, multi-year catch-ups, IRS matters, off-season projections — not heads-down on returns alone. Who this works for Active EA or CPA, five-plus years preparing returns. Someone who genuinely likes doing the work as this is a production seat, not a review-and-manage seat. Generalists from small and mid-sized firms tend to fit best. Who it doesn't Anyone who wants to stop preparing and start reviewing. Anyone who needs a large firm's training infrastructure — the team is six people. Anyone who wants fully remote. Anyone looking for Big Four-style specialization.
