Full-Time Position Summary X Contracting is a rapidly growing heavy civil and underground utilities contractor committed to disciplined execution, operational excellence, and financial accountability. As we continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced, hands-on Corporate Controller to lead the company's financial reporting, accounting compliance, and financial analysis while supporting continued growth. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Corporate Controller serves as the company's technical accounting leader and strategic financial partner. This position works closely with the Office Manager to ensure accounting operations remain accurate, efficient, and compliant while providing executive leadership with timely financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis. The ideal candidate is a construction accounting professional who enjoys improving processes, strengthening internal controls, mentoring accounting staff, and partnering with operations to improve financial performance. Primary Responsibilities Financial Accounting & Reporting- Lead the company's financial reporting process, ensuring timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage the monthly and year-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and ASC 606 Revenue Recognition.
- Review and analyze financial results, identify trends, and provide recommendations to executive leadership.
- Prepare monthly variance analyses and management reports.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and supporting schedules. Construction Accounting
- Oversee construction accounting and financial reporting for all divisions.
- Review and validate job costing accuracy.
- Manage Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
- Review percentage-of-completion calculations.
- Monitor project profitability and gross margins.
- Review retainage balances, change orders, and project financial reporting.
- Partner with Project Managers and Operations to improve financial performance and cost visibility. Cash Management & Financial Planning
- Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital reporting.
- Prepare weekly and monthly cash flow projections.
- Assist the CFO with budgeting and financial forecasting.
- Support banking relationships, lenders, and surety reporting. Accounting Operations Support
- Partner closely with the Office Manager to support the successful execution of AP, AR, Payroll, Billing, and General Ledger functions.
- Provide technical accounting guidance and assist in resolving complex accounting issues.
- Review financial activity for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Support the Office Manager in improving accounting workflows and internal controls.
- Review AR aging, AP trends, and financial reporting to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Serve as a technical accounting resource for the accounting team. Financial Controls & Compliance
- Maintain and strengthen internal accounting controls.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Coordinate annual audits and year-end financial statement preparation.
- Serve as the primary contact for external CPA firms, auditors, tax advisors, financial institutions, and insurance auditors.
- Oversee tax compliance and evaluate financial risks. ERP Systems & Process Improvement
- Serve as the Accounting Administrator for the Foundation ERP system.
- Lead accounting system enhancements and reporting improvements.
- Improve automation, documentation, and process efficiency. Equipment & Asset Accounting
- Oversee fixed asset accounting and depreciation.
- Review equipment accounting, utilization, and project allocations. Leadership & Collaboration
- Serve as the company's technical accounting leader.
- Partner with the CFO and Office Manager to achieve financial objectives.
- Mentor accounting staff through technical guidance and coaching.
- Collaborate with Operations and Executive Leadership on strategic initiatives. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- 5+ years of construction accounting experience.
- Controller or Senior Accounting leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of
GAAP, ASC
606, Job Cost Accounting, WIP, Percentage-of-Completion, and Retainage Accounting.- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities. Preferred Qualifications
- CPA is a plus.
- MBA is a plus.
- Foundation ERP experience preferred. Experience with Viewpoint Vista, Sage, or similar systems.
- Heavy Civil or Underground Utilities construction experience preferred.
