Job Description
Job Overview We are a high-end residential privately held interior design firm with retail and manufacturing business lines seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented, and hands-on Assistant Controller with an active CPA designation to join our Company. Reporting to the Controller, this role will help lead the accounting department, manage financial reporting and close activities, supervise accounting staff, and coordinate tax support schedules and packets. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting knowledge with excellent leadership, organization, and communication skills. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and review of financial statements, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely completion.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis, consolidations, and financial reporting packages.
- Coordinate the preparation and review of tax packets, supporting schedules, workpapers, and requested documentation for external tax advisors and regulatory filings.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, assist in payroll, cash management, sales tax, and general ledger functions to support operational efficiency and appropriate liquidity.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members while establishing clear expectations, reviewing work, and promoting accountability.
- Maintain sound internal controls and accounting policies and support regulatory compliance requirements.
- Conduct ad hoc management reports, inventory accounting, margin analysis, and financial data analysis to support informed business decisions.
- Oversee inventory accounting, valuation, costing, reserves, and reconciliations, and partner with operational teams to improve inventory accuracy.
- Manage multi-entity accounting activities, including intercompany transactions, due-to and due-from reconciliations, and consolidated reporting support.
- Prepare regulatory and management reports and respond to requests from outside tax preparers, banks, tax advisors, and other business partners.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes through technology, automation, stronger controls, and improved documentation.
- Organize department priorities and deadlines to ensure high-quality work is completed accurately and on time and communicate progress with Management. Required Qualifications
- Active CPA license required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Progressive accounting experience that includes financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and team supervision.
- Strong knowledge of tax reporting, internal controls, double-entry accounting, debits and credits, and general ledger accounting.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, including the ability to coach, develop, and hold team members accountable.
- Exceptional organization and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines and maintain accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly to accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with accounting and financial reporting systems. Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in corporate accounting and public accounting 5+ years, audit, or consulting.
- Experience with inventory accounting, manufacturing, wholesale, showroom, or related operational environments.
- Experience with multi-entity accounting and intercompany transactions.
- Experience preparing tax support packets and schedules for income tax, sales and use tax, property tax, 1099 reporting, or similar compliance requirements.
- Experience with process improvement, accounting automation, ERP enhancements, Power Query, PivotTables, XLOOKUP, or other financial data-analysis tools. What Success Looks Like

Pay:
