President / Executive Leadership Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller with strong construction accounting and management experience to lead the company's financial and main home-office operations. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for construction accounting, financial reporting, job costing, WIP, cash-flow management, KPI reporting, internal controls, and administrative operations . The Controller will lead the Accounting Manager, HR Manager, Contract Administrator, and other key home-office functions , while partnering with executive leadership and Project Managers to drive financial accountability and operational performance. The ideal candidate understands how a commercial general contractor operates financially and can translate company and project data into clear, actionable information for management decision-making . Key Responsibilities Financial & Construction Accounting Lead accounting operations, month-end close, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Maintain accurate job-cost accounting across multiple construction projects. Prepare and review WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion calculations, over/under billings, backlog, cost-to-complete, and projected gross margins . Partner with Project Managers to review budgets, committed costs, change orders, forecasts, and project profitability. Oversee A/R, A/P, progress billing, retainage, subcontractor payments, collections, and cash-flow forecasting . Coordinate with CPAs, auditors, banks, insurance providers, and bonding/surety partners. KPI Reporting & Performance Management Develop and maintain KPI reports, scorecards, and executive dashboards covering performance from the overall corporate level down to individual construction projects . Track key financial and operational metrics including revenue, gross margin, backlog, cash flow, WIP, overhead, working capital, job profitability, cost-to-complete, billing, and collections . Provide actual-to-budget and actual-to-forecast analysis , identifying trends, variances, financial risks, and opportunities for corrective action. Establish consistent company, department, and project-level reporting that provides leadership with clear visibility and accountability for performance. Leadership & Home-Office Management Manage and develop the Accounting Manager, HR Manager, Contract Administrator, and supporting administrative personnel . Oversee the effective day-to-day operation of the company's main/home office functions . Establish strong procedures, internal controls, accountability, and coordination across Accounting, HR, Contract Administration, Project Management, and Executive Leadership. Oversee HR administration, payroll, benefits administration, contract administration, insurance documentation, and related office operations. Ensure contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, change orders, insurance certificates, and critical business documentation are properly administered and maintained. Continuously improve systems, processes, controls, reporting, and administrative efficiency to support company growth. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration , or related field. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience , including significant construction accounting experience. Prior experience managing accounting and administrative personnel . Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion accounting, revenue recognition, progress billing, retainage, change orders, and construction cash flow . Commercial general contractor experience strongly preferred. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with construction accounting/ERP systems. Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. CPA or CPA candidate preferred but not required. The successful candidate will be a financial leader and operational manager who understands construction from both the corporate and project level. The ideal candidate will be comfortable reviewing job costs with Project Managers, challenging cost-to-complete assumptions, developing meaningful KPIs, managing and developing home-office staff, strengthening internal controls, and providing leadership with clear visibility into profitability, cash flow, backlog, working capital, and financial risk . The right candidate combines construction accounting expertise, strong leadership, business judgment, organizational discipline, and a high level of ownership and accountability.
