Automotive Controller Car Dealership
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced, high-level Automotive Controller to oversee the accounting and financial operations of a growing car dealership organization. This is a senior accounting position for someone who understands dealership accounting, can take ownership of the books, and is highly proficient with QuickBooks . The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, hands-on, and capable of providing ownership with accurate financial reporting and strong financial controls. Key Responsibilities Oversee all dealership accounting and financial operations Maintain accurate books and records in QuickBooks Prepare monthly financial statements, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting Manage month-end and year-end closing processes Reconcile bank accounts, floorplan accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts Monitor vehicle inventory accounting and inventory schedules Reconcile vehicle purchases, sales, payoffs, and flooring activity Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable Review deal accounting and ensure transactions are posted correctly Monitor commissions, payroll-related accounting, and expense allocations Maintain schedules for fixed assets, loans, and other liabilities Coordinate with banks, lenders, CPAs, tax professionals, and ownership Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow management Identify accounting discrepancies and implement stronger internal controls Produce accurate and timely management reports for ownership Help improve accounting processes and financial reporting across the organization Qualifications Significant experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior dealership accountant Automotive dealership accounting experience strongly preferred Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Excellent understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statements Experience with dealership inventory and floorplan reconciliations preferred Strong Microsoft Excel skills Ability to manage multiple entities and bank accounts Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail Ability to identify problems and independently resolve accounting discrepancies Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with ownership CPA or accounting degree is a plus but not required for candidates with significant relevant experience Compensation Up to $120,000 per year , depending on experience and qualifications. We are looking for someone who wants to take ownership of the accounting department rather than simply process transactions. The right candidate will become a key financial resource for ownership and help ensure that the dealership's financial reporting, controls, and accounting processes are accurate and efficient. Automotive dealership accounting experience and strong QuickBooks knowledge will receive priority consideration.
