full-time Our client, a growing organization based in Carmel, Indiana, is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the company's accounting operations and strengthen financial processes as the business continues to grow. This position will play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective accounting processes, strong internal controls, and reliable project-level financial information. The ideal candidate will have a strong construction accounting background, hands-on expertise in job costing and WIP reporting, and a proven ability to improve accounting systems, processes, and team performance. This is a hands-on Controller role focused on the accounting function and supporting project and operational teams with accurate, timely financial information. Key Responsibilities Manage the company's day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. Oversee job cost accounting, project accounting, and project financial reporting. Monitor WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules, job costs, contract performance, margins, and project profitability. Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close process. Prepare and review monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and cost coding processes. Establish and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Ensure compliance with applicable GAAP and accounting standards. Improve accounting workflows, systems, reporting processes, and documentation to support continued company growth. Identify opportunities to increase efficiency, accuracy, and accountability throughout the accounting function. Lead, develop, and support the accounting team, including establishing processes, responsibilities, and performance expectations. Partner with project managers and operational personnel to improve job cost accuracy, billing, collections, and project financial reporting. Provide timely financial and accounting information to company leadership to support day-to-day business decisions. Qualifications 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within construction, contracting, or another project-based industry. Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project profitability. Experience with construction accounting software or ERP systems. Strong understanding of general ledger, month-end close, reconciliations, AP, AR, payroll, and financial reporting. Proven experience improving accounting systems, processes, procedures, and internal controls. Previous experience leading, developing, or mentoring accounting personnel. Strong Excel skills and ability to work effectively with financial and project data. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with accounting, project management, and operations teams. Ability to work in a growing, hands-on environment and take ownership of the accounting function.
