Interim Controller (Contract)Job Description This interim Controller role is a highly visible, hands-on position providing critical leadership and day-to-day accounting support during a temporary leave of absence. Working on-site in a regulated manufacturing environment in Massachusetts for approximately five months, you will step directly into daily finance operations and ensure continuity across financial reporting, cash flow management, inventory accounting, and accounts payable. This role is ideal for a seasoned manufacturing accounting professional who is comfortable in lean or high-volume environments and can immediately contribute to operational and strategic financial decisions. Responsibilities Lead daily accounting and finance operations to ensure accurate and timely financial activity. Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements, providing insights and recommendations to support decision-making. Support revenue reporting and financial analysis to enhance financial visibility and performance tracking. Manage the full month-end close process and related financial reporting activities. Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial accuracy and compliance. Provide hands-on accounting support, including transactional work, as business needs require. Oversee Accounts Payable operations, ensuring timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices and payments. Support the development and mentorship of accounting and AP staff to improve performance and capabilities. Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital analysis to support liquidity and operational needs. Oversee inventory accounting, including valuation, WIP activity, and related manufacturing cost accounting. Collaborate closely with operations teams to ensure accurate manufacturing reporting and alignment between finance and production. Utilize ERP and reporting systems to improve financial visibility, reporting quality, and data-driven decision-making. Support budgeting and forecasting processes to align financial plans with business objectives. Operate effectively in a lean or high-volume accounting environment, balancing leadership responsibilities with detailed execution. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience. Prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience within a manufacturing environment. Strong experience with financial reporting, including preparation and analysis of financial statements. Demonstrated expertise in cash flow management, including forecasting and working capital analysis. Proven experience with budgeting and forecasting in an operational setting. Deep knowledge of inventory accounting, including inventory valuation and WIP accounting. Strong understanding of manufacturing cost accounting and operational finance. Ownership of month-end close processes in prior roles. Ability to manage daily accounting operations while remaining actively involved in transactional work. Experience supporting Accounts Payable operations and mentoring accounting staff. Proven ability to work in a hands-on capacity within a lean or high-volume accounting environment. Comfort working in fast-paced, high-volume, or resource-constrained accounting settings. Ability to effectively use ERP and reporting systems to support financial visibility and decision-making. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in regulated manufacturing environments. SAP experience. Experience with Cognos reporting tools. CPA certification preferred. Prior interim or consulting leadership experience is a plus. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to build cross-functional relationships with operations and other business teams. Comfort operating in a visible leadership role while maintaining a collaborative, hands-on approach. Work Environment This is an on-site contract role based in Massachusetts within a regulated manufacturing environment. The position is full-time at approximately 40 hours per week. You will initially work fully on-site and, once fully up to speed (typically within 30-60 days), the schedule may transition to a hybrid arrangement of one to two days per week working remotely. You will work closely with operations, manufacturing, and finance teams, using ERP systems and reporting tools such as SAP and Cognos to support financial visibility and reporting. The environment is lean and may be high-volume, requiring a practical, hands-on approach and comfort with both leadership responsibilities and detailed transactional work. The role offers the opportunity to contribute immediately in a critical capacity and to support a strong manufacturing organization during an important interim period. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Lee, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $52.88 - $67.31/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
