Job Description
Description We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Controller to manage the financial operations of a premier hospitality establishment in Birmingham, Michigan. This role is integral to ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, compliance, and strategic planning while driving operational excellence across accounting functions. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of hospitality finance to contribute to the organization's success.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare comprehensive financial statements and reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to ensure accurate tracking of financial performance.
- Lead the budgeting process, including creating forecasts and analyzing variances to support strategic decision-making.
- Supervise daily accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and fixed assets.
- Establish and enforce internal controls to maintain compliance with financial regulations and protect company assets.
- Coordinate audit processes by working closely with external auditors and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Provide mentorship and leadership to the accounting team, fostering growth and accountability with attention to detail.
- Monitor cash flow and develop strategies to optimize liquidity and manage financial risks effectively.
- Evaluate existing financial systems and processes, recommending and implementing improvements for enhanced efficiency.
- Apply expertise in hotel accounting, retail accounting, and office management to ensure accurate financial practices. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; advanced degrees or certifications such as CPA or CMA are strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a management role.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop is highly desirable, with familiarity in Hilton OnQ being an added advantage.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance within the hospitality industry.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including financial modeling and data analysis.
- Strong analytical and organizational abilities, with excellent communication skills.
- Proven experience in hotel industry accounting is mandatory.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while maintaining high ethical standards in financial practices.
