Job Description
Job Summary Our client, a High-Growth Multifamily Real Estate Investment Firm, is looking for a Controller. They are looking for someone who can raise the level of the accounting function, bring structure to a currently inefficient environment, and become a true financial partner to the business. This position is available only for direct W-2 employment. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. We are not accepting submissions from third-party agencies, staffing firms, subcontractors, or candidates seeking C2C or other non-W-2 arrangements for this role. Core Responsibilities Own the entire accounting function, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and scalability of financials Bring discipline, structure, and speed to the month-end close process Own and continuously improve close and reporting cadence, including KPIs such as days to close, reporting accuracy, and timeliness of financial insights Serve as a key financial partner and right hand to the CFO and leadership team Lead budgeting and forecasting that drives decision-making—not just reporting Partner closely with financial analysts across operations and new investments to align reporting with real-time performance Help bridge accounting, operations, and investment strategy to ensure financials reflect the true state of the business Dig into the numbers, understand the story, and ask the tough questions Identify cost savings and margin opportunities alongside operations Oversee insurance allocations and related analysis Required Skills/Experience (Must-Haves) Proven experience in multifamily real estate and property management accounting, with third-party property management experience strongly preferred Strong knowledge of GAAP, month-end close, financial statements, account reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, KPI reporting, and variance analysis Ability to analyze property-level financial performance, identify trends, and understand the business drivers behind financial results Experience managing financial reporting for multiple properties/entities while meeting strict deadlines and maintaining accuracy Demonstrated ability to communicate financial results to owners, investors, or other key stakeholders and align reporting with business objectives Naturally inquisitive mindset with a track record of identifying inefficiencies, improving processes, leveraging automation, and enhancing scalability Self-starter who takes ownership, proactively solves problems, and drives initiatives from identification through implementation Proven success implementing process improvements, improving reporting, streamlining close processes, creating efficiencies, and identifying cost-saving opportunities Preferred Skills/Experience (Nice-to-Haves) Strong analytical and financial planning skills, with the ability to translate data into meaningful business insights and recommendations Proven ability to establish structure, discipline, and accountability within the financial close and reporting processes Collaborative team player who partners effectively across finance, operations, and leadership to achieve shared business goals Naturally curious and proactive, consistently asking thoughtful questions and seeking to understand the root cause behind issues and trends Leadership experience focused on developing, mentoring, and building high-performing teams rather than simply managing day-to-day activities Detail-oriented with the ability to balance accuracy and execution while maintaining a strategic, forward-thinking perspective
