  • Part-time, Full-time Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Accountant/Controller to oversee accounting and financial operations for an established business with two divisions, including propane/petroleum products distribution as well as commercial real estate property management and related ventures.
This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who can effectively manage the financial operations of one business operating through two divisions primarily along with other related entities. The successful candidate will bring strong accounting expertise and the ability to provide accurate financial reporting that supports business growth and decision-making. This role is best suited for someone seeking more responsibility than a traditional bookkeeping position and who enjoys serving as a trusted financial partner to business ownership. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting Manage day-to-day accounting functions with assistance from others. Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports. Perform account reconciliations and oversee month-end close processes. Monitor cash flow and assist with budgeting and forecasting. Provide financial insights and recommendations to ownership. Maintain accurate financial records and ensure reporting integrity. Job Costing & Operational Accounting Assist with and improve job costing processes for service and project-based work. Monitor labor, inventory, subcontractor costs, and project profitability. Assist operational leaders with financial reporting and performance analysis. Support profitability tracking and operational decision-making. Property Management Accounting & Trust Account Management Oversee accounting functions related to managed properties including accounts payable. Assist with commercial real estate rent collections, owner distributions, and operating expenses. Coordinate financial reporting across multiple properties and ownership entities. Systems & Process Improvement Work within multiple accounting and operational platforms, including MRI, AddSys, Service Fusion, and MS Excel. Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting processes, and internal controls. Assist with implementation of new systems and process improvements as needed. Compliance & External Relationships Coordinate with outside CPA firm and tax professionals. Assist with year-end reporting, audits, and compliance requirements. Support regulatory compliance and financial best practices. Qualifications Required Understanding of financial statements, account reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting. Experience managing accounting for multiple business entities. Ability to analyze financial data and provide meaningful insights to business ownership. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently. Preferred Two year accounting degree or Bachelors in accounting. 3+ years of accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibility. Experience in propane or energy distribution business and/or commercial real estate property management. Experience supporting owner-operated, or family-owned business.
