•Legal Industry Experience Required•We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations and help drive the financial integrity of a growing organization in New Jersey. Reporting to and partnering closely with the Head of Accounting, this individual will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, managing cash flow activities, and providing financial insights that support strategic business decisions.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader with strong technical expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and a proven ability to manage multiple priorities while developing and mentoring accounting staff.
Key ResponsibilitiesPartner with the Head of Accounting to oversee the organization's accounting function and ensure accurate, timely, and efficient financial operations.
Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members, establishing priorities and reviewing work to maintain high-quality deliverables.
Manage the full payroll process, including employee updates, deductions, compliance reporting, reconciliations, and coordination with third-party payroll providers.
Oversee trust and operating accounts, ensuring proper accounting treatment, reconciliation, and compliance with company policies.
Review and monitor high-volume wire transactions and cash activity, ensuring accuracy, security, and appropriate financial controls.
Perform and review daily, monthly, and annual account reconciliations to maintain the integrity of financial records.
Maintain the general ledger, monitor account activity, and ensure proper account classifications and coding.
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules.
Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning initiatives, providing meaningful analysis of trends and variances.
Evaluate and enhance internal controls, risk management practices, and fraud prevention procedures.
Coordinate external audits and serve as a key liaison with auditors, banking partners, payroll providers, and other external stakeholders.
Identify opportunities to improve processes, increase operational efficiency, and strengthen reporting capabilities across the finance function.
