Job Description:

Controller New York City About the Role A privately held hospitality and real estate ownership group is seeking a Controller to lead financial operations across a multi-property portfolio in New York City. The portfolio includes boutique hotels and a residential rental portfolio of approximately 100 apartments throughout Manhattan. This is a hands-on leadership role reporting directly to ownership. You'll run the accounting function end to end, deliver timely and accurate reporting, and provide financial insight that informs both operating performance and asset strategy. This is not a maintenance role. You're stepping into a seat where structure, discipline, and financial visibility matter. Ownership is engaged, expectations are high, and your work will directly influence decisions. This is not a passive reporting position. You'll be expected to build structure, enforce accountability, and raise the level of financial clarity across multiple entities. Location Manhattan. Primary office based on the Upper West Side or in Midtown. This is an in-person role, five days per week. What You'll Own Lead all accounting operations across multiple hotel and real estate entities. Manage the full close process, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Oversee budgeting and forecasting, with detailed variance analysis at both the property and portfolio level. Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management. Monitor liquidity across entities, oversee bank reconciliations, and manage intercompany activity. Ensure GAAP compliance and coordinate audits, tax filings, and external advisors. Strengthen internal controls and formalize financial policies across the organization. Deliver clear, decision-ready reporting tied to operational performance and asset value. Oversee real estate accounting, including leases, property taxes, capital expenditures, and capital improvement tracking. Manage and optimize QuickBooks Desktop and hospitality property management system integrations. Supervise and partner closely with the Assistant Controller to maintain organization, accountability, and timely reporting. What You Bring At least 5 years of experience in an accounting leadership or Controller role. Candidates with deeper experience may be considered depending on scope and expectations. Direct real estate accounting experience is required. Hotel accounting experience is strongly preferred. Multi-property experience is required. Strong command of GAAP and multi-entity accounting. Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and familiarity with hospitality property management systems. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA is preferred. Advanced Excel skills, including building models and presenting clean, digestible reporting to ownership. Comfort operating in a high-accountability, multi-property environment with competing priorities. Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with owners and senior operators.
