The role combines team leadership with construction job costing, cash-flow management, reporting, receivables, inventory oversight, payroll support, and coordination with the company's outside CPA. The successful candidate should be comfortable working close to day-to-day operations and translating financial information into useful management insight.
Key Responsibilities Team Leadership:
Manage and support a three-person accounting/administrative team consisting of an Accountant, Accounting Clerk, and Office Manager.
Construction Job Costing:
Maintain and review job-cost information for construction and scaffold-related work, helping management understand project performance and profitability.
Cash Flow:
Monitor cash position, anticipated receipts, and upcoming obligations to support sound operating decisions.
Management Reporting:
Prepare and review weekly sales reports and other financial information needed by ownership and management.
External Reporting:
Prepare financial reporting required by insurance companies and support other external reporting needs.
Payroll & Commissions:
Support payroll-related accounting, including sales commission calculations. Payroll reporting to Employee Services Corp is handled by the Accountant.
Accounts Receivable & Collections:
Review AR activity, monitor collections, and help maintain timely customer payments.
Accounts Payable & Invoice Review:
Review AP and AR invoices and related account activity for accuracy and proper recording.
Inventory & Reconciliations:
Oversee inventory reconciliations prepared by the Accounting Clerk and ensure account reconciliations are completed accurately.
Sales Tax:
Review and oversee sales tax reporting prepared by the Accountant.
Outside CPA Coordination:
Work directly with the company's outside CPA and provide schedules, reconciliations, and supporting information as needed. Business Environment This role supports a business with multiple operating activities, including scaffold purchase and rental, scaffold erection and dismantling, masonry and construction materials, concrete forming systems, equipment, and service/repair. Because of that mix, the Controller should be comfortable with the financial mechanics of a construction and distribution environment, including job costing, inventory, receivables, and operational reporting. Preferred Background Accounting or finance experience with the ability to manage the day-to-day financial function of a small to mid-sized operating company. Construction industry experience is preferred. Experience with job costing, cash-flow management, financial reporting, account reconciliations, collections, and inventory accounting is highly relevant to the role. Ability to supervise a small accounting/administrative team while remaining hands-on with the work. Comfort working in accounting and operational systems. Bison currently uses Sage for accounting and Avontus for inventory management.
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
