Job Description
Description We are looking for an Assistant Controller to support financial operations and help maintain accurate, timely accounting processes in Cleveland, Ohio. This role offers the opportunity to lead a small accounting team while contributing to core functions such as closing activities, reconciliations, and cash management. The ideal candidate brings a strong accounting foundation, a collaborative mindset, and the curiosity to investigate issues thoroughly and improve day-to-day financial oversight.
Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight to a small accounts payable team, helping prioritize work and maintain accuracy across transactions.
- Lead monthly closing activities by coordinating deadlines, reviewing entries, and ensuring financial records are completed on schedule.
- Perform detailed balance sheet and account reconciliations, researching discrepancies and resolving issues in a timely manner.
- Support insurance administration by handling certificates of insurance, monitoring fleet-related coverage, and maintaining vehicle title documentation.
- Manage banking and treasury functions, including cash activity oversight and administration of the company's credit facilities.
- Use Excel extensively to analyze financial data, prepare schedules, and support reporting and audit needs.
- Assist with general ledger maintenance and contribute to the preparation of internal financial reports and audit-ready documentation.
- Work closely with cross-functional partners to strengthen accounting processes and support efficient financial operations. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
- Prior experience in an Assistant Controller or closely related accounting leadership role is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of month-end close, general ledger activity, and account reconciliation processes.
- Experience supporting financial reporting and external or internal audit preparation.
- Proficiency in Excel for analysis, reconciliations, and reporting tasks.
- Familiarity with banking, treasury activity, and credit line management is highly valued.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a small team while fostering a cooperative, accountable work environment.
- Team-oriented approach with strong initiative, sound judgment, and an inquisitive problem-solving style.
