Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a hands-on, systems-driven, and operation-focused Controller to build and oversee the accounting foundation of a growing manufacturing company. This is a new role responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, strengthening internal controls, improving inventory and cost accounting discipline, and creating reliable reporting that leadership can trust. The ideal candidate has strong manufacturing accounting experience, understands inventory and WIP complexity, and thrives in an environment where processes are being formalized and improved. Position Purpose The Controller is responsible for: Accurate financial reporting Inventory & cost accounting integrity Month-end close discipline Internal controls and compliance Financial process design and improvement Taxes A/R A/P System design System Implementation Support operations This role ensures the company's financial foundation is clean, predictable, and scalable by establishing strong financial systems and operational discipline. The Controller will act as a trusted operational partner and right hand to the CEO, helping build the financial structure required for the company's next stage of growth. Key Responsibilities 1. Financial Reporting & Close Process Lead month-end and year-end close process Ensure timely, accurate financial statements Reconcile all balance sheet accounts Maintain general ledger integrity Develop and enforce accounting policies
Goal:
Close completed within 8-10 business days with full confidence in numbers. 2. Manufacturing Cost Accounting Oversee inventory valuation and WIP accounting Maintain standard costing methodology Analyze variances (labor, materials, overhead) Ensure COGS accuracy Collaborate with operations on margin improvementGoal:
Leadership can trust SKU-level profitability. 3. Internal Controls & Compliance Strengthen internal control environment Design approval and documentation processes Ensure compliance with GAAP Coordinate with external CPA / tax advisors Prepare audit-ready documentationGoal:
Reduce financial risk and surprise exposure. 4. Cash & Working Capital Oversight Monitor cash position Manage AR/AP oversight Improve receivables collection discipline Identify working capital optimization opportunitiesGoal:
Predictable cash flow with no unexpected shortages. 5. Systems & Process Improvement Optimize NetSuite configuration and reporting Improve financial workflows Document accounting procedures Identify automation opportunities Train internal staff on proper financial processesGoal:
Finance and operations become structured and scalable. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance 5-8+ years progressive accounting experience 3+ years in manufacturing environment Strong inventory & cost accounting knowledge Experience leading month-end close ERP experience (NetSuite strongly preferred) Strong Excel skills Strong operational and systematic mindset Street smart and dynamic Preferred CPA designation Experience in growth-stage company Experience cleaning up or building systems Multi-channel revenue exposure (DTC, Amazon, wholesale) Skills & Competencies Detail-oriented but big-picture aware Systems thinker (not just transaction processor) Strong internal control mindset Clear communicator with non-financial managers Comfortable working directly with CEO High ownership mentality Calm under pressure What Success Looks Like in 12 Months Financial close completed in 8-10 days Inventory accuracy significantly improved Standard costing reliable and updated Clean audit-ready documentation Leadership trusts financial reporting CEO no longer acting as accounting backstop Compensation Base salary: $125,000 - $165,000 Performance bonus Growth path towardDirector of Finance Pay:
