We are seeking a hands-on, forward-thinking Assistant Controller to partner with leadership in managing daily accounting operations, driving timely month-end closes, and enforcing robust internal controls. The ideal candidate blends deep technical GAAP knowledge in the manufacturing sector with strong organizational skills to streamline workflows, and ensure financial data integrity. This is an on-site, brick-and-mortar role.
Core Responsibilities Financial Close & Operations:
Lead and accelerate monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles; review and approve high-risk general ledger reconciliations (AR, AP, inventory/cost accounting).
Manufacturing Accounting & Cost Control:
Oversee standard costing, inventory valuation, bill of materials (BOM) variance analysis, and GL reconciliation.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
Prepare and review financial statements, budget-to-actual variances, and executive reporting packages. Has month end reporting responsibility.
Compliance & Audit Management:
Act as primary liaison for external/internal audits, test and strengthen internal controls, and ensure strict GAAP compliance.
Process Automation & Policy:
Design, document, and implement scalable accounting policies, ERP enhancements, and workflow efficiencies.
Compliance & Tax/Payroll Oversight:
Review multi-state payroll processing and support corporate tax compliance filings (federal, state, local, property/sales tax).
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
5+ years of progressive accounting experience; manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred (or active candidate).
Technical Skills:
Advanced Excel, ERP system proficiency (e.g., NetSuite, Epicor, SAP, IQMS or similar), strong command of US GAAP and cost accounting. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Technical Acumen:
Deep mastery of US GAAP, general ledger management, and manufacturing cost accounting (standard costing, inventory valuation, BOM/labor variances).
Systems & Data Fluency:
Advanced Excel (Xlookup, pivot tables, financial modeling) and hands-on proficiency with mid-to-enterprise ERP systems.
Leadership & Communication:
Clear, executive-ready verbal and written communication; proven ability to translate complex financial data for non-finance stakeholders and mentor junior staff.
Execution & Urgency:
Exceptional analytical and root-cause problem-solving skills; resilient under pressure with a strict commitment to close deadlines.
Operational Agility:
Collaborative cross-functional mindset combined with autonomy to drive projects independently.
Physical & Operational Requirements Work Environment:
Daily on-site presence at our physical office location.
Schedule Flexibility:
Extended hours required during peak cycles (month-end, quarter-end, audit, and year-end inventory counts) or urgent business deliverables.
