Full-Time, Exempt About the Role Charles Brothers is a multi-entity poultry production, transportation, and sales company experiencing significant growth. We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting function across multiple operating entities and to modernize and scale our accounting and financial reporting infrastructure to support that growth. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can operate at both the strategic and detail level — someone equally comfortable closing the books, building consolidated financials across entities, and redesigning systems and processes that haven't kept pace with the company's expansion. The ideal candidate has experience in agriculture, livestock, food production, or another asset- and inventory-intensive industry, and has led an ERP or accounting-systems upgrade before. Key Responsibilities Accounting Operations & Multi-Entity Reporting Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process across all three entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency Prepare and review consolidated and entity-level financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) in accordance with GAAP Manage intercompany transactions, eliminations, and allocations across entities Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and inventory accounting functions Maintain accurate costing and inventory valuation for live birds, feed, and related production inputs across the flock cycle (grow-out, processing, byproducts) Systems & Process Improvement Lead the upgrade of current ERP system to support multi-entity consolidation and increased transaction volume Design and document standardized chart of accounts, close checklists, and accounting policies across all three entities Build and improve internal controls, approval workflows, and segregation of duties appropriate for a growing organization Automate manual processes and reporting to reduce close time and improve data reliability Partner with operations, procurement, and production teams to ensure accounting systems capture farm-level, flock-level, and plant-level data needed for accurate costing and margin analysis Financial Reporting & Analysis Deliver timely, accurate management reporting including entity and consolidated performance, cost-per-pound/cost-per-bird metrics, feed conversion economics, and retail margin analysis Support the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis across entities Prepare reporting packages for ownership, lenders, and external stakeholders as needed Ensure compliance with debt covenants, insurance requirements, and any regulatory or commodity-related reporting obligations Team Leadership & Compliance Build, mentor, and manage the accounting team as the company scales, including hiring as needed to support growth Manage relationships with external auditors, tax preparers, and banking partners Ensure compliance with tax filings, sales/use tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory requirements across all entities and applicable jurisdictions Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure audit readiness Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2-3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role Demonstrated experience managing accounting across multiple entities or business units Experience leading or significantly contributing to an ERP/accounting system implementation or upgrade Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting Advanced Excel skills; experience working with accounting/ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks Enterprise, or similar) Proven ability to build scalable processes in a fast-growing organization Preferred CPA license Experience in poultry, livestock, agriculture, animal protein, or food/agribusiness production Experience with commodity/inventory costing methodologies (e.g., flock costing, feed conversion, byproduct allocation) Experience working in a private, family-owned, or PE-backed company What We Offer Competitive salary commensurate with experience Performance-based bonus Health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with company match Paid time off and holidays Opportunity to build and shape the finance function of a growing company Charles Brothers is an equal opportunity employer.
