Clawson & Staubes is seeking a Controller to oversee the firm's accounting and financial operations across its growing, multi-office practice. The successful candidate will manage the day-to-day accounting function, including financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, billing and collections, reconciliations, cash management, budgeting, and payroll coordination. The Controller will work closely with Firm leadership to provide accurate financial information, strengthen financial processes, and support sound business decisions. We are looking for an experienced accounting professional who understands the importance of accuracy, confidentiality, organization, and consistent follow-through in a professional services environment. Key Responsibilities Oversee the firm's accounting and financial operations across its six offices Manage general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, and expense management Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes Prepare and provide accurate financial statements and management reports to Firm leadership Monitor cash flow, banking activities, and financial performance Assist with the development and management of the firm's annual budget and provide ongoing budget-to-actual analysis Oversee billing and collections processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and cash flow Manage accounting procedures related to client funds, trust accounts, and IOLTA accounts in accordance with applicable requirements Coordinate payroll processing and related accounting functions Establish and maintain appropriate internal financial controls to safeguard firm assets and ensure the accuracy of financial information Coordinate with the firm's outside accountants, tax professionals, auditors, banks, and other financial service providers Assist with tax preparation, audits, and other financial reporting requirements Analyze financial information and provide meaningful insight and recommendations to Firm leadership Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, financial controls, and consistency across the firm's offices Supervise, train, and support accounting personnel as applicable Maintain the confidentiality and security of sensitive firm, employee, and client financial information Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field At least 8 years of progressive accounting experience; Controller-level experience is preferred Quickbooks experience is required. Clio client management software experience is preferred. Experience in a law firm or professional services environment is strongly preferred Experience with billing, accounts receivable, collections, financial reporting, budgeting, and cash management Familiarity with trust accounting, IOLTA accounts, and client funds is preferred Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial statements, and internal controls Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications Experience with accounting, billing, payroll, or law firm practice management software Organized and dependable, with the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities Professional, analytical, and detail-oriented, with sound judgment and discretion Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with attorneys, staff, Firm leadership, vendors, and outside financial professionals Committed to accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement How to Apply Upload a resume and cover letter to this job posting or you may submit the information to jobs@cslaw.com.
