Position Summary The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting operations of the company and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. In a manufacturing environment, the Controller plays a critical role in cost accounting, inventory valuation, financial controls, and operational financial analysis. This position manages the accounting team and ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), internal controls, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Accounting Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes. Prepare and review financial statements, including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement. Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. Manage the general ledger and maintain accurate financial records. Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance Maintain and improve cost accounting systems for materials, labor, and overhead. Monitor product costs, standard costing systems, and variance analysis. Oversee inventory accounting, including cycle counts, physical inventories, and valuation methods. Provide financial analysis related to production efficiency, margins, and operational performance. Internal Controls & Compliance Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal financial controls. Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and reporting requirements. Coordinate external audits and manage relationships with auditors and tax advisors. Establish policies and procedures to safeguard company assets. Budgeting & Financial Planning Lead the annual budgeting process and support long-range financial planning. Monitor financial performance against budget and provide variance analysis. Support management with financial modeling and decision-support analysis. Team Leadership Manage and develop the accounting team, including AP, AR, payroll, and staff accountants. Establish clear processes, accountability, and performance expectations within the department. Collaborate with operations, purchasing, and production management to improve financial visibility.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or CMA preferred. 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a manufacturing environment. Experience with cost accounting, inventory accounting, and ERP systems. Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control frameworks. Deep understanding of manufacturing cost structures and operational metrics. Advanced analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong leadership and communication abilities. Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills. Key Performance Indicators Accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting Inventory accuracy and cost variance management Effectiveness of internal controls Budget adherence and financial forecasting accuracy Development and performance of the accounting team
