Job Description

Controller Overview This is a hands-on financial leadership position working directly with the CFO and executive management. The Controller will lead the accounting function, ensure accurate and timely financial and job-cost reporting, and have significant responsibility for improving accounting processes, controls, and financial systems. Controller Responsibilities Lead monthly close and ensure timely and accurate financial statements Maintain general ledger accuracy and balance sheet integrity Oversee job-cost accounting, project cost reporting, and contract-related financial reporting Analyze project profitability, operating costs, margins, and asset utilization Establish, maintain, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls Supervise and develop accounting staff and manage accounting workflows Review and authorize purchase orders, invoices, and other financial transactions Oversee bank reconciliations, cash reporting, and financial record integrity Identify accounting discrepancies, control weaknesses, and opportunities for process improvement Develop and improve financial reporting for management decision-making Coordinate external audits and provide required financial documentation Work directly with the CFO, CEO, and operations management on financial performance and business decisions Controller Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred; substantial relevant accounting experience will be considered Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience Construction accounting, job-cost accounting, or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred Experience supervising and developing accounting staff Experience with construction ERP systems such as Foundation, Sage 300 CRE, ComputerEase, or similar Advanced Microsoft Excel skills Strong understanding of financial statements, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and internal controls Strong analytical and problem-solving ability Ability to manage competing deadlines and produce accurate financial information in a fast-paced operating environment Ability to work independently, identify problems, and drive them through resolution CPA or CPA candidate is a plus, but not required
