Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the diagnostic evaluation through Biopsychosocial assessments and disposition of adult and juvenile consumers seeking acute crisis mental health services. Responds to the behavioral health crisis and general information lines, providing crisis intervention services, as well as working closely with area hospitals to ensure proper placement for consumers in crisis. Position requires the ability to multi-task and handle potentially unpredictable situations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent. Answers phone calls with customer service in mind. Assess lethality and level of intervention needed. Directs consumers appropriately. Provides information and crisis intervention when indicated. Opens a clinical record on each consumer seen. Obtains the required demographic, financial and insurance information; documents it accurately. Questions and/or contacts by phone family to obtain needed information. Contacts insurance companies to obtain pre-certifications, where applicable, to obtain authorization for services and documents it appropriately in the record and for Utilization Management (UM) personnel. Contacts UM personnel for specific insurance verification questions and concerns. Appropriately and accurately documents client's insurance as well as scanning insurance verification into Avatar record. Competently assesses each consumer seeking services mental status using the Intake Evaluation form in a timely and professional manner. Documents each case thoroughly and accurately. Obtains all pertinent clinical information regarding each consumer from those appropriate to provide information such as referral agencies, law enforcement agencies, significant others, etc. This includes, but is not limited to, past clinical history, past and current legal history, lethality, etc. Provides crisis prevention to escalating consumers and other involved parties. Initiates an Initial Treatment Care Plan including the client's stated goal for treatment. Contacts consumer's Case Manager upon admission and documents the contact in the clients electronic medical record. Provides each consumer with necessary copies of paperwork. Obtains accurate Medical Clearance information and contacts unit nurse in a timely manner for clearance; calling client over within 2 hours of clearance if a bed is available. Assists consumers not meeting Baker Act criteria for admission in finding appropriate disposition referrals either within an Eleos program or to a community resource and documents on psychosocial. Completes other duties as required by program or agency needs.
Requirements :
Position requires the ability to multi-task and handle potentially unpredictable situations. Demonstrates ability to operate basic office equipment accurately, including fax, telephone system, laptop/tablet, and copier/scanner. Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in behavioral science or related field plus one-year clinical experience.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to see, hear, and participate in emergency situations. Must be able to communicate orally and in writing. Must be able to pass NAPPI training and be able to physically and safely, handle potentially aggressive situations.
Special Working Conditions:
Exposure to consumers and and treatment program conditions which may include physical intervention and verbal abuse by consumers. Exposure to long and sometimes irregular hours, and communication with families and a wide range of community partners outside the facility.
