Fleet Technician II Job Number 26-006 Requirements High school diploma or GED Minimum of five (5) years of documented experience in fleet or automotive repair; medium to heavy truck technician experience preferred Valid Florida Class B CDL license or obtain a temporary Class B CDL permit within 45 days of employment and full licensure within 120 days ASE Certification in a minimum of six (6) areas, including: A7 and/or T7
- Heating and Air Conditioning A6 and/or T6
- Electrical/Electronic Systems A4 and/or T4
- Brakes A5 and/or T5
- Steering and Suspension A8
- Engine Performance and/or T8
- Preventive Maintenance Inspection Perform physical work, including regularly lifting, pushing, and pulling objects up to 100 pounds Available to work on-site and respond during declared or undeclared emergencies as an essential employee Required Skills Skilled in diagnosing and repairing gasoline and diesel engines, including two (2) and four (4) cycle, single and multi-cylinder engines Proficiency in mechanical diagnostics, including the use of automotive scan tools, multimeters, and diagnostic software Repair and maintain carburetion, fuel injection, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, braking, steering, suspension, and HVAC systems Knowledge of computerized engine controls for compression ignition and spark ignition engines Read and interpret shop manuals, schematics, and flow charts Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic work order systems Time management and organizational skills Work independently and as part of a team Work outdoors in adverse weather conditions Responsibilities Perform skilled diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of City fleet vehicles and equipment Repair and maintain carburetion and fuel injection systems Diagnose and repair computerized engine control systems Perform maintenance and repair of automatic and manual transmissions, trans-axles, and hypoid differentials Repair and maintain hydraulic and air braking systems Service and repair HVAC systems using R-134a refrigerant Use automotive diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and resolve mechanical issues Complete accurate and orderly electronic work orders and maintenance records Assist with preventative maintenance programs for City vehicles and equipment Operate tools, equipment, and machinery safely and in accordance with established procedures Work under the supervision of the Fleet Manager and Senior Fleet Technician Perform related duties as assigned to support efficient fleet operations
