Link to Department Website or Custom Search Page https://www.niu.edu/conference-event-services/meetings/rockford/index.shtml Position Summary, Requirements, and Qualifications Position Summary, Requirements, and Qualifications Overview NIU -Naperville functions as a University off- campus center providing classroom space and support for NIU courses during evening and Saturday hours, and operates as a conference center on weekdays and weekends. This is a critical support position to the conference and catering operations at NIU -Naperville. The individual in this position will work closely, report and take direction from Event and Catering Manager in preparation and set-up for catering breakfasts, break service, lunches, dinners and receptions for conference clients at NIU -Naperville. Position Summary The position requires the ability to work independently with little supervision and also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This individual will have contact with all levels of NIU staff and users of the NIU -Naperville center including conference clients, potential clients, students, faculty, and the public. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Food Service Execution and Supervision Assists in preparation, set-up, and service for lunches, afternoon breaks, receptions and special catering events. Prepares set-up information for next-day events and communicates this information to evening staff. Conducts weekly inventory and in conjunction with orders food supplies, paper products from multiple vendors. Assists in cost control for food service area and makes suggestions on alternative products. Responsible for entire catering operation in absence of the Catering Supervisor or Event Coordinator. Responsible for supervision of afternoon catering clean-up staff and servers from outside catering vendors; Responsible for training of clean-up and set-up personnel. Designing and decorating break areas and dining rooms; Works closely with clients that request non-standard catering events. Duties include greeting clients and monitoring the quality of catered food. Other duties include food arrangement, replenishment, and cleaning of equipment. Front Desk Serves as back-up Front Desk during absence or breaks by answering telephones, greeting and providing assistance to clients and students. Other Related Duties Performs additional related duties as assigned. Minimum Required Qualifications (Civil Service) High school diploma or equivalent. Three (3) years (36 months) of food service work experience in an institutional or commercial setting. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) (Civil Service) Supervisory ability.
