The Product Development Scientist is responsible for developing and confirming the manufacturability of new products in the following formats: gummies. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including sales, manufacturing, marketing, and legal, to produce supplements that meet the highest standards of safety, efficacy, taste, and quality. Candidate will have growth opportunities and career progression within the company.Key Responsibilities:
Strong understanding of product formulation and the product development process from concept ideation to launch, with a track record of successful product deliveries. Identify innovative solutions to new and existing problems, understanding raw ingredient specifications and their impact on finished products. Develop new nutritional supplement products, ensuring alignment with company objectives and customer needs. Execute all aspects of formulation from bench top to pilot scale to define manufacturing-scale processes and provide technical support for these activities. Manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize workload effectively. Write, edit, and update batch records, raw material specifications, SOPs, and technical reports, ensuring efficient operations in assigned project areas. Evaluate raw materials and suppliers for product quality, process feasibility, and compliance standards. Conduct pre-quote discovery, quote submission, NPF development, system execution, pre-production review, first-time run, and post-mortem analysis. Collaborate with marketing teams to develop Supplement Facts Panels and provide critical product information. Develop and validate specialized QC test protocols with assistance from both in-house and external technical resources. Adapt quickly and demonstrate resilience amid changing priorities and business needs. Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.Specific Experience Highly Preferred:
Experience with nutritional supplements. Experience with base chemistry where small percentages of active ingredients can be added. Experience in the development and launch of gummies beyond simple prototype development is required. Experience in Research and Development of nutritional supplements. Knowledge and experience with pectin-based technologies, equipment, and dosage formulations, including sustained release mechanisms. Demonstrated ability to identify potential problems and develop proactive solutions to achieve results.Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort working with others. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to prioritize and perform job tasks with minimal supervision. Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Experience with ERP/MRP systems is strongly desired. Department management experience. Belief in and accountability to the Mission, Vision, Objectives, Goals, and Operating Model of Zephyr Naturals.Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a scientific major with 5+ years (or a master's degree with 3+ years) of relevant experience in an appropriate discipline and/or measurable business and technical accomplishments. Familiarity with GMP requirements and the Code of Federal Regulations governing dietary supplement and personal care cosmetic manufacturing. PMP, PgMP, CAPM, and/or comparable project management certifications preferred.Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand, sit, walk, reach, and bend throughout the workday. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Ability to work at a computer station for long periods. Ability to proficiently use lab equipment for long periods.Job Type:
