Job Description

The Delavan Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Full-Time Police Officer. In order to apply, you must turn in a completed application to the police department which will remain open until position is filled. Applications can be found on our website: Delavanil.org/police_ officer Applications can also be picked up at the City of Delavan City Hall during normal business hours. Lateral transfers are encouraged to apply. Lateral entry pertains to Illinois certified peace officers. Laterals will be given consideration on starting pay based on experience. Please return all applications along with copy of driver's license and certifications either in person at Delavan City Hall 219 S Locust St. or via email listed in the link provided. Successful candidates will then be invited for interviews.
Responsibilities:
  • Enforce laws and ordinances to maintain public safety and order
  • Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity
  • Respond to emergency calls and provide assistance as needed
  • Conduct investigations and gather evidence for criminal cases
  • Write detailed reports on incidents, arrests, and investigations
  • Serve warrants and make arrests when necessary
  • Provide traffic control and enforce traffic laws
  • Assist with community outreach programs and events
Qualifications:
  • At least 21 years of age at time of hire
  • Must be a certified police officer or willing to attend a police academy
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some positions may require college coursework or a degree
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Valid FOID Card
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and make quick decisions
  • Knowledge of criminal investigation techniques and procedures
  • Familiarity with loss prevention strategies and conflict management techniques
  • Ability to handle and care for animals in various situations
Note:
The ability to drive is a critical requirement for this position as it involves patrolling assigned areas. Additionally, candidates should have knowledge of militarized operations as they may be required in certain situations.
