Job Title:
General Labor Job Description This General Labor position supports brick manufacturing operations by performing a variety of physically active tasks, including material handling, machine tending, inspection, and packaging. You will work with production equipment, handle bricks and related materials, and help ensure that products meet quality standards while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. Responsibilities Blend, repack, cut, wax, and hand set brick as part of daily production operations. Run equipment to place banding material around strapped brick and apply cross straps on brick cubes. Monitor machine and strapping tool operation and assist with minor repairs or adjustments as needed. Lift and handle materials such as rolls of banding (approximately 40 pounds) and edge protectors (approximately 25 pounds) to a height of about four feet, using safe lifting techniques. Perform tasks that require frequent twisting, bending, and standing throughout the shift. Cut the face off brick to create pieces used in display panels, ensuring accurate and consistent cuts. Place brick from cubes or pallets onto a conveyor feeding the saw and monitor the flow from conveyor to saw feed belt. Observe bricks as they move from the saw blade to the washing stage and from washing to drying to ensure smooth operation. Take washed brick slabs and place them onto a conveyor that feeds the brick slab dryer. Remove dried brick slabs from the dryer and load them onto carts or into boxes, depending on the intended use of the slabs. Inspect brick and grade it according to company specifications, evaluating chips, cracks, size, distortion, and color range. Maintain good balance and stability while performing standing tasks for extended periods. Use proper lifting and body positioning techniques to minimize the risk of injury from repetitive movements. Package brick and set brick onto kiln cars for firing as part of general labor duties. Perform physical work that includes lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Operate production machinery as needed, following safety and operational guidelines. Participate in training for forklift operation when required and operate equipment safely once trained. For first shift roles, work a typical five-day schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with some overtime on Saturdays and Sundays as needed. For second shift roles, monitor kiln operations and operate car handling equipment to move kiln cars safely and efficiently. Perform preventive maintenance tasks on assigned equipment and conduct basic quality control testing as directed. Maintain dependable attendance and punctuality, especially for second shift positions with rotating schedules. For second shift roles, work from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM on a rotating schedule of six days on and two days off, including holidays when required. Follow all safety procedures, plant rules, and quality standards while working collaboratively with production and warehouse teams. Essential Skills At least 3 months of previous work experience in a general labor role that required standing for long periods of time. Ability to perform physically demanding work, including frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, twisting, bending, and standing throughout the shift. Capability to safely lift and handle materials such as 40-pound rolls of banding and 25-pound edge protectors to a height of approximately four feet. Comfort working in a production, warehouse, or manufacturing environment. Ability to monitor and tend production equipment and basic machinery.
