Greenhouse/Garden Center Employee Job Summary Garden Center Duties:

• Greet visitors and customers
• Provide customer service
• Make sales transactions Plant, spray, weed, fertilize, and water plants, shrubs, and trees, using hand tools and gardening tools.
• Plant crops, trees, or other plants.
• Apply chemical solutions to plants to protect against disease or insects or to enhance growth.

Harvest plants, and transplant or pot and label them Operate tractors and other machinery and equipment to fertilize, cultivate, harvest, and spray fields and plants. Dig, cut, and transplant seedlings, cuttings, trees, and shrubs. Dig, rake, and screen soil, filling cold frames and hot beds in preparation for planting. Move containerized shrubs, plants, and trees, using wheelbarrows or tractors.

• Plant crops, trees, or other plants. Clean work areas, and maintain grounds and landscaping.
• Clean equipment or facilities.

Horticulture/Greenhouse Workers provide day-to-day plant care, ensuring that plants receive correct levels of water, nutrients, light level, etc.. Workers also assist with project set-up, data collection, insect/disease management, and equipment maintenance. Provide daily care to greenhouse and nursery plants to include, planting, transplanting, pruning, watering, fertilizing, controlling insects and disease, ventilating, and controlling weeds; manage plant nutrient levels Maintain each greenhouse room at the appropriate temperature, humidity, and light level Inspect plant material for disease and insect problems, light levels, temperature and humidity, nutrient requirements, and mechanical damage Record data and maintain records; notify supervisor or project leader of irregularities Prepare proper soil mixes as designated by supervisor or project leader Move materials such as soil, stone, soil mixes, concrete, fertilizers, growth chambers, etc. Perform routine maintenance on and modifications to a variety of greenhouse and nursery equipment; maintain irrigation systems May set up, adjust, and maintain electrical devices such as irrigation control units, greenhouse control units, mist control units, and horticultural cooler Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition Greenhouse workers plant, cultivate, and harvest various types of plants.

• preparing the soil to plant bulbs, cuttings, and seeds, with the purpose of growing various types of plants
• planting flowers, trees, and other types of plants in specially designated areas within the greenhouse
• ensuring that all plants under their supervision have optimal temperature and humidity levels, which allow them to reach their growth potential
• preventing the occurrence of pests and diseases by constantly spraying the plants with special substances
• noticing and eliminating any potential element that may prevent healthy plant growth, like pests, diseases, weeds, and fertilizer misuse
• performing daily maintenance operations on the plants, such as watering, weeding, and pruning
• setting up and maintaining irrigation systems to water plants, both outdoors and inside the greenhouse
• extracting shrubs, flowers, and trees from the ground and preparing them for sale
• collecting specific data about the plans in their greenhouse and how they evolve over time, to help with various scientific enquiries
• giving information to any potential customer regarding various aspects of healthy plant management, such as how to take care of the flowers, trees, shrubs, and lawns
• using tractors and other types of specialized machinery to harvest crops and to promote healthy plant growth by fertilizing fields and spraying them with pest repellents
• using machinery to move heavy materials and large plants
• planting seeds in pots and trays to sell them in retail store
• maintaining optimal levels of inventory for various types of greenhouse materials and equipment
• keeping their working areas and customer visiting areas clean Must be able to lift 50lbs.

Training will be provided to enhance knowledge and build skills.
