GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as Fall 2026 Visiting Artist and Director. Teach one section of THR241- Selected Topics inTheatre:
Stand Up & Sketch Comedy:
The Power of the Punchline as Civic Discourse on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. during the Fall Semester (September 8 - December 14, plus Final Exam Period) and direct the Fall Student Theatre production of Love/Sick by John Cariani. THR241Stand Up & Sketch Comedy:
The Power of the Punchline examines stand-up and sketch comedy as forms of performance that engage in contemporary social, cultural, and political conversations. Through analysis, writing, and performance, students explore how comedians use humor to frame perspectives, question assumptions, and engage in public dialogue. Students will study historical and contemporary examples of comedic performance, develop original stand-up material and collaborative sketches, and evaluate how comedy functions within broader media and performance landscapes. Emphasis is placed on both creative practice and analytical reflection, with attention to audience, context, intention, and impact.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Instructor Responsibilities Provide instruction in both traditional and non-traditional learning modes. Select and develop appropriate materials for each class use. Track and assess student progress. Maintain appropriate attendance and learner records. Post course syllabus on Moodle, the College's Learning Management System. Director Responsibilities Collaborate with the Program Coordinator, Technical Director, designers and other creative team members to prepare a fully produced dramatic comedy for public performances. Mentor student cast and crew in the creative process. Conduct a minimum of three 3-hour rehearsals per week plus additional technical and dress rehearsals in the weeks leading up to the opening of the show. Coordinate with Program Coordinator and Technical Director on all production elements including budget and expenses, director's creative concept, auditions and castingJob Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
: Master's degree in Theater, Performance or Comedic Arts. Professional experience performing stand-up and/or sketch comedy. Demonstrated pedagogical, communication, and presentation skills. Ability to create a classroom environment that engages students and supports learning. Equity and inclusion-minded with experience fostering a learning environment that celebrates the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and racial and ethnic backgrounds present within our college community. Understanding of and commitment to employing consent-based practices in the classroom and rehearsal studio. Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience teaching theatre, comedy, or performance at the community college level. Experience using Moodle or other Learning Management Systems.
