Job Description

Position Overview The Head Nurse and Health Records Administrator for Summer @ The Brook is responsible for overseeing all health and medical operations for both day and residential camp programs. This leadership role ensures the safety and well-being of campers and staff while maintaining full compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations. In addition to managing the health center and supervising nursing staff, this position plays a critical role in overseeing and maintaining all camper medical records through Campminder.

  • August 17 Reports to: Director of Auxiliary Programs Key Responsibilities Health Center Leadership Lead and manage the daily operations of the camp health center.
Ensure the health center is properly staffed, organized, and equipped at all times. Provide direct care and oversight for illnesses, injuries, and medical needs. Staff Supervision & Scheduling Supervise, train, and schedule nursing staff to ensure appropriate coverage, including 24/7 support for residential programs. Provide leadership, guidance, and performance oversight to all health center staff. Train summer nursing staff on systems, procedures, and expectations. Health Records & Campminder Administration Manage and maintain the Campminder database for all health-related records. Review and ensure completeness and accuracy of all camper medical forms and documentation prior to and during camp. Train staff on proper use of Campminder for health documentation and reporting. Medical Care & Medication Management Oversee medication administration and ensure all protocols are followed accurately. Maintain proper documentation for treatments, medications, and health incidents. Communication & Coordination Communicate with parents and guardians regarding health concerns, incidents, and care plans. Coordinate with camp leadership, athletic staff, and aquatics personnel to support overall camper safety. Serve as the primary liaison with external healthcare providers and emergency services as needed. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure full compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations and reporting requirements. Maintain accurate medical logs, incident reports, and required documentation. Support inspections and regulatory reviews. Staff Training & Education Train camp staff on basic health procedures, emergency response, and reporting expectations. Promote a culture of safety, awareness, and proactive care across all camp programs. Required Qualifications Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (New York State preferred or ability to obtain). CPR/AED certification required. Preferred Qualifications Experience in camp, school, or pediatric nursing strongly preferred. Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a healthcare setting. Experience with Campminder or similar camp management systems. Skills & Competencies Strong organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to manage a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities. High level of attention to detail, particularly in medical documentation and compliance. Additional Information Seasonal position (June 1
