The North Middlesex School District is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach to lead its high school basketball program. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated educator-coach who prioritizes developing student-athletes both on and off the court, fostering an environment rooted in teamwork, discipline, academic excellence, and sportsmanship. The Head Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the boys basketball program—varsity, junior varsity, and freshman levels—ensuring alignment with the district's mission of providing meaningful athletic, social, and emotional growth opportunities for all students. The coach will work collaboratively with assistant coaches, student-athletes, parents, and school administrators to build a competitive and character-driven program that represents the values and spirit of North Middlesex Athletics.Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Vision Develop and implement a comprehensive basketball program philosophy aligned with the North Middlesex Athletics mission and core values. Provide direction and mentorship for all levels of the boys basketball program to ensure consistency in skill development, culture, and expectations. Build a program that emphasizes teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement both on the court and in the classroom. Represent the program and school with professionalism, integrity, and pride in all community and league interactions. Player Development Design and execute high-quality, structured practice sessions focusing on skill development, conditioning, game awareness, and mental preparation. Foster growth in all players, from foundational fundamentals to advanced competitive play, emphasizing leadership, resilience, and sportsmanship. Monitor academic progress and personal well-being of student-athletes, supporting their success beyond basketball. Implement film study, scouting, and performance review processes to help athletes understand and improve their play. Game Management & Strategy Develop offensive and defensive systems that align with player strengths and program goals. Prepare and execute game plans, analyze opponents, and make strategic in-game adjustments. Oversee team selection, lineups, rotations, and substitution patterns to maximize team performance. Maintain a calm, composed, and positive sideline presence that models leadership and composure for athletes. Team Culture & Mentorship Establish a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture that embodies respect, hard work, and pride in representing North Middlesex. Lead by example through strong communication, professionalism, and a student-first mindset. Teach life lessons through sport—emphasizing perseverance, accountability, and ethical decision-making. Encourage community involvement and pride through team service projects, youth clinics, and engagement with future Patriots. Program Coordination & Collaboration Recruit, supervise, and mentor assistant and sub-varsity coaches, ensuring consistent communication and shared program goals. Coordinate off-season opportunities, including summer leagues, camps, and strength and conditioning programs. Collaborate with the Athletic Director on scheduling, budgeting, and equipment needs. Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and school staff to ensure alignment between academics, athletics, and student well-being. Safety, Compliance & Professionalism Ensure all practices, games, and events adhere to MIAA, school district, and NFHS regulations. Prioritize athlete safety, health, and well-being by following all emergency and concussion protocols. Maintain accurate records of attendance, eligibility, and participation. Uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship and ethical conduct, serving as a role model for athletes and the broader community.Qualifications:
Required:
Demonstrated experience coaching high school basketball or higher-level programs. Deep knowledge of basketball fundamentals, advanced strategy, and player development. Proven ability to build strong relationships with student-athletes, families, and staff. Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Commitment to academic achievement, integrity, and sportsmanship. Compliance with all MIAA and North Middlesex School District coaching requirements (including CPR, First Aid, and Concussion Training).Preferred:
Previous experience as a head coach or varsity assistant coach. Collegiate-level playing or coaching experience. Experience running youth or developmental basketball programs. Background in strength and conditioning, sports psychology, or leadership development.Salary:
