Job Description:
The North Middlesex School District is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Varsity Assistant Girls Basketball Coach to support the development and success of the high school girls basketball program. The assistant coach will work closely under the direction of the Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach and in collaboration with the Athletic Director to promote skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth for all student-athletes. The ideal candidate will be passionate about education-based athletics, mentoring student-athletes on and off the court, and helping the team achieve success while maintaining a positive, inclusive, and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Coaching & Instruction Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices focused on fundamentals, conditioning, and competitive readiness. Provide individual and small-group instruction to enhance player skills, including shooting, passing, dribbling, defense, and offensive/defensive strategy. Support the implementation of team systems and strategies developed by the Head Coach. Participate in film sessions, scouting, and performance analysis to help improve team and individual performance. Player Development & Mentorship Serve as a role model and mentor to student-athletes, promoting leadership, resilience, accountability, and sportsmanship. Support athletes' academic success and encourage balanced participation in school and athletics. Foster confidence, teamwork, and a positive attitude among all players. Team Culture & Collaboration Contribute to building a positive, inclusive, and respectful team environment. Work collaboratively with the Head Coach, other assistant coaches, and support staff to maintain consistency across all levels of the girls basketball program. Encourage student-athletes to embrace program values and uphold high standards of conduct and performance. Assist with community outreach, youth clinics, and program engagement initiatives as directed. Game & Event Support Help with game preparation, including warm-ups, rotations, and substitutions as directed by the Head Coach. Provide in-game coaching and feedback, ensuring players stay focused and execute strategies effectively. Support team performance review and post-game evaluation processes. Safety & Compliance Ensure all practices, games, and team activities follow North Middlesex School District, MIAA, and NFHS safety and compliance guidelines. Monitor player safety, proper use of equipment, and injury prevention practices. Maintain required certifications, including CPR, First Aid, and Concussion in Sports Training.
Qualifications:
Required:
Experience coaching high school or middle school basketball, or significant playing experience at the high school or collegiate level. Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and player development techniques. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes while maintaining a positive program culture. Must meet all North Middlesex School District, MIAA, and NFHS coaching requirements.
Preferred:
Previous experience as a varsity assistant or head coach. Background in player development, strength and conditioning, or sports psychology. Experience building or supporting youth basketball programs. Collegiate playing or coaching experience.
Salary:
Per North Middlesex Regional School District Coach Stipend Schedule.
