Job Description:
The North Middlesex School District is seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Varsity Wrestling Coach to lead the high school wrestling program. The coach will be responsible for developing student-athletes both on and off the mat, emphasizing technical skill development, strength and conditioning, sportsmanship, and character building. The ideal candidate will foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team culture while preparing athletes for competitive success at the varsity level. The Head Coach will work closely with the Athletic Director, assistant coaches, and support staff to ensure program alignment with North Middlesex Athletics' mission and values.
Key Responsibilities:
Coaching & Skill Development Plan, organize, and conduct practices that develop wrestling fundamentals, strategies, and match techniques. Implement strength, conditioning, and flexibility programs specific to wrestling performance. Provide individualized instruction and mentorship to student-athletes to maximize their growth and potential. Evaluate athletes' performance and progress, offering constructive feedback and guidance. Competition & Game Management Prepare the team for dual meets, tournaments, and championship competitions. Develop match lineups, weigh-in strategies, and in-match coaching guidance. Conduct post-match reviews to encourage learning, skill improvement, and sportsmanship. Team Culture & Mentorship Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team culture aligned with North Middlesex Athletics' core values. Serve as a role model, demonstrating integrity, leadership, and respect. Promote student-athlete academic success and personal growth while balancing athletic commitments. Encourage leadership, teamwork, and accountability among team members. Collaboration & Communication Maintain open communication with parents, Athletic Director, school staff, and assistant coaches regarding athlete progress, program updates, and upcoming events. Collaborate with coaching staff to coordinate practice plans, competition schedules, and athlete development programs. Participate in professional development, program meetings, and district-wide athletic initiatives. Safety & Compliance Ensure all practices, matches, and team activities are conducted safely, following MIAA, NFHS, and district guidelines. Monitor athlete safety, injury prevention, and proper equipment usage. Maintain required certifications, including CPR, First Aid, and Concussion in Sports Training. Adhere to all district policies and MIAA wrestling regulations.
Qualifications:
Required:
Experience coaching wrestling at the high school or collegiate level, or significant wrestling experience as an athlete. Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, strategies, and weight-class management. Ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes while fostering a positive team culture. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Must meet all North Middlesex School District, MIAA, and NFHS coaching requirements.
Preferred:
Previous head coaching experience in wrestling. Experience with strength and conditioning programs tailored to wrestlers. Familiarity with tournament preparation, scouting, and match analysis. Experience working with diverse student populations.
Salary:
Per North Middlesex Regional School District Coach Stipend Schedule.
