Job Description
Head Football Coach Job Description Position Title Head Football Coach Reports To Principal and Athletic Director Position Summary The Head Football Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the football program. The coach will establish the vision, expectations, and culture of the program while promoting academic success, sportsmanship, leadership, and athletic excellence among student-athletes. The Head Football Coach will supervise assistant coaches, coordinate practices and competitions, and ensure compliance with all school, district, and Alabama High School Athletic Association rules and regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Set the vision, goals, and standards for the football program. Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices and training sessions. Teach and develop football skills, tactics, and techniques appropriate for student-athletes. Analyze team and individual performance and provide constructive feedback. Identify player strengths and weaknesses and position athletes accordingly. Develop training programs and strategies designed to improve team and individual performance. Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and respect for the game. Motivate student-athletes to perform at their highest potential academically and athletically. Guide health, conditioning, nutrition, and positive lifestyle choices. Prepare the team for athletic competition and supervise all games and related activities. Maintain accurate records, inventory, and care of equipment and uniforms. Assist with athletic program development, community engagement, and promotion of the football program. Supervise assistant coaches and ensure alignment with program expectations and district policies. Ensure the safety and welfare of all student-athletes at all times. Follow and enforce all policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements established by the school district and the Alabama High School Athletic Association . Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, school personnel, officials, and community members. Attend required meetings, clinics, and professional development activities. Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred. Valid Alabama teaching certificate or ability to meet local employment requirements preferred. Previous football coaching experience required. Demonstrated knowledge of football fundamentals, strategy, conditioning, and player development. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders. Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with Alabama High School Athletic Association rules and regulations. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, run, bend, and demonstrate athletic activities for extended periods. Ability to lift and move athletic equipment as needed. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Terms of Employment Salary and supplement to be determined by the Board-approved salary schedule and applicable athletic supplement schedule. Length of contract and work schedule determined by the school district.
