This role provides an opportunity to help children express emotions, build resilience, and improve emotional well-being through creative, evidence-based art therapy interventions. Working alongside psychologists, marriage and family therapists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and behavioral specialists, the Art Therapist will provide individualized and group services that promote emotional growth, self-expression, and healthy development. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with children of diverse backgrounds and developmental abilities, including those experiencing anxiety, trauma, autism spectrum disorder, behavioral challenges, grief, and emotional regulation difficulties. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive art therapy assessments to identify emotional, behavioral, developmental, and social needs. Develop individualized treatment plans using evidence-based expressive arts interventions. Provide individual and group art therapy sessions for children and adolescents. Utilize creative modalities including drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, storytelling, and other expressive arts techniques to support therapeutic goals. Collaborate with psychologists, therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, behavior specialists, and families to provide coordinated care. Incorporate trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and neurodiversity-affirming therapeutic practices. Facilitate therapeutic art groups focused on emotional regulation, self-esteem, social skills, grief, coping skills, and self-expression. Educate parents and caregivers on strategies to reinforce therapeutic goals outside of sessions. Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries within the electronic health record (EHR). Participate in multidisciplinary case consultations, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, ethical guidelines, and organizational policies. Qualifications Master's degree in Art Therapy, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related mental health field from an accredited institution. Registered Art Therapist (ATR) or Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) preferred. California licensure (LMFT, LPCC, LCSW, Psychologist) or associate registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences is preferred when providing psychotherapy services. Strong understanding of child development, attachment, trauma, and family systems. Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary pediatric setting. Commitment to providing culturally responsive, inclusive, and family-centered care. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. Preferred Experience Experience providing art therapy to children and adolescents. Experience working with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral challenges, developmental disabilities, or social-emotional difficulties. Experience facilitating therapeutic groups for children. Knowledge of sensory regulation, play-based interventions, and expressive arts therapies.
