Our Lifespan Audiology track combines pediatric diagnostic assessment from birth through 21 years of age with adult amplification and implantable hearing device services. Externs work across several UNC Audiology clinic locations and graduate with extensive experience caring for patients across the lifespan in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. Full supervision with increasing independence. This 4th year position offers experience in the following areas: -

Adult and Pediatric Diagnostics:

We provide developmentally appropriate hearing assessments for patients of all ages. Externs will gain experience with natural sleep ABRs on infants, outpatient newborn hearing re-screens, two-tester behavioral hearing assessment for children of all ages, and conventional audiometry. -

Adult and Pediatric Hearing Aid Dispensing Program:

We have a well-established hearing aid dispensing program and work with all major manufacturers for adult and pediatric amplification. We routinely complete candidacy evaluations, amplification consultations, verification, and fitting of devices. -

Adult Cochlear Implant Program:

We are one of the largest cochlear implant programs in the country and work with all 3 manufacturers extensively. We routinely complete pre-operative candidacy evaluations, initial activations, and post-operative follow-up. In addition, our adult cochlear implant program is actively involved in clinical research. -

Other Implantable Devices:

We work with a variety of implantable devices spanning from bone conduction solutions to auditory brainstem implants. We routinely complete pre-operative candidacy evaluations, initial activations, and post-operative follow-up for these devices. -

Adult and Pediatric ENT Clinic:

The Department of Audiology works collaboratively with attending physicians and residents from UNC's Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery to provide audiology diagnostic evaluations for adult and pediatric outpatient populations with a wide variety of hearing disorders in a fast-paced environment. -Participate in regular audiology staff meetings, in-service/training opportunities, and clinical research (based on the applicants' interests).
