Job Description

UF Health is seeking a Surgical Tech II - Cardiovascular to support complex heart and vascular procedures in our advanced operating rooms. In this role, you will prepare and maintain a sterile field, set up and manage specialized cardiovascular instruments and equipment, and anticipate surgeon needs throughout procedures. You will collaborate closely with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiology, and perfusion teams to ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. Responsibilities Prepare operating rooms for cardiovascular procedures, ensuring all equipment and instruments are available and functioning Establish and maintain strict sterile technique throughout surgical procedures Anticipate surgeon and team needs during cardiovascular and thoracic cases Handle, count, and care for instruments, sponges, and supplies before, during, and after surgery Operate and troubleshoot specialized cardiovascular OR equipment within scope Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia, and perfusion staff to optimize patient safety and outcomes Participate in turnover, room restocking, and equipment maintenance workflows Follow UF Health policies, infection control standards, and patient safety protocols Support orientation and mentoring of new team members or students as needed Required Skills Cardiovascular surgical procedures Sterile technique and aseptic practices Surgical instrumentation management Operating room setup and workflow Use of cardiovascular OR equipment (e.g., heart-lung machines support, retractors) Infection prevention and control Sponge, needle, and instrument counts Basic Life Support (BLS) Reading and following surgical preference cards Intraoperative problem-solving and communication
