Job Description

UF Health in Gainesville seeks a CVT Surgical Technologist to support complex cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries. This role prepares and maintains a sterile field, selects and passes instruments, and coordinates equipment for open-heart, vascular, and thoracic procedures. The technologist collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesia, and nursing to ensure safety, accuracy, and efficiency in the OR. Responsibilities Prepare and maintain a sterile field for cardiovascular and thoracic procedures Select, organize, and pass instruments and supplies during surgery Set up, operate, and troubleshoot OR equipment for CVT cases Perform accurate counts of sponges, instruments, and sharps Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and nursing to optimize patient safety Assist with patient positioning, draping, and skin preparation Handle and label specimens according to protocol Maintain documentation related to procedures and equipment use Support orientation and mentoring of new staff or students Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and quality standards in the OR Required Skills Cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures Sterile technique and infection control OR instrumentation and equipment setup Intraoperative instrumentation handling Cardiopulmonary bypass case support Surgical counts and patient safety protocols Electrocautery and suction device use Specimen handling and labeling Electronic health record documentation Interdisciplinary OR team communication
