Catholic Health | Buffalo, NY Region Full-Time | Hybrid/Remote Eligible After 90 day probationary period Travel Required Throughout Catholic Health Facilities Help Shape Quality Care Through Clinical Documentation Excellence Catholic Health is seeking an experienced Ambulatory Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDS) to join our growing Clinical Documentation Improvement team. In this highly visible role, you will partner with providers across a multi-facility health system to strengthen clinical documentation, improve diagnosis capture, support compliance, and enhance patient risk adjustment accuracy. This is an outstanding opportunity for a healthcare professional with strong clinical knowledge, coding expertise, and a passion for physician education. What You'll Do As an Ambulatory CDS, you will: ✅ Review provider documentation to ensure accurate
ICD-10-CM
diagnosis assignment, sequencing, and E/M level selection ✅ Conduct provider audits and deliver meaningful education to support documentation excellence ✅ Onboard and train new providers regarding CDI processes and documentation best practices ✅ Perform pre-visit chart reviews to identify Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCCs) and documentation opportunities ✅ Collaborate with Provider Liaisons and CDI colleagues to improve clinical documentation performance across the health system ✅ Track audit findings, educational activities, and CDI outcomes for leadership reporting ✅ Support initiatives that enhance revenue integrity, compliance, quality outcomes, and patient risk-adjusted profiles Qualifications Required Bachelor's Degree OR 5+ years of related healthcare experience One of the following coding credentials: CCS-P, CPC, CRC, or CCS Minimum 5 years of experience in: E/M coding, OR Nursing with demonstrated clinical expertise Preferred RN or LPN credential Epic EMR experience Clinical Documentation Improvement experience Provider education and training experience Skills for Success Strong knowledge of pathophysiology and clinical documentation requirements Critical thinking and analytical problem-solving abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to educate and influence providers effectively Project management and organizational skills Self-motivation and ability to work independently Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Why Join Catholic Health?
