Additional Information About the Role Laboratory Associates Coordinator Alton Memorial Hospital Laboratory | Alton, IL Join the team at Alton Memorial Hospital as a Laboratory Associates Coordinator and play a key role in supporting laboratory operations, staff development, and exceptional patient care. This position combines hands-on patient care responsibilities with leadership and coordination duties to ensure efficient daily workflow within the laboratory. Responsibilities Obtain blood and non-blood specimens from both inpatient and outpatient populations. Coordinate Laboratory Associate staff to maintain a productive workflow and outstanding patient care. Answer phones and process laboratory specimens accurately and efficiently. Coordinate daily schedules, including lunches, breaks, and training time for Laboratory Associates. Lead onboarding and training efforts for new employees. Provide coverage for scheduled and unscheduled staff absences. Assist with maintaining quality standards and operational efficiency within the laboratory. Schedule Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. On-call rotation every third week and weekend. On-call coverage every other holiday. Must be flexible and able to work a variety of shifts based on staffing and operational needs. Must be able to accommodate on-call requirements. Location Alton Memorial Hospital Laboratory Qualifications Minimum of two years of Laboratory Associate, phlebotomy, or related laboratory experience required. Strong specimen collection and processing skills. Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational abilities. Experience training, mentoring, or coordinating staff preferred. Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Overview Since 1937, Alton Memorial Hospital has cared for residents in Alton, Illinois, and the surrounding communities in a five-county area. Starting as a land gift to the community from the Smith family, Alton Memorial today is a full-service acute care hospital. Alton Memorial offers patients a variety of inpatient and outpatient services, including surgery services, medical imaging, interventional and diagnostic heart services, cancer care, rehabilitation, 24-hour emergency care, ambulance services and more. Responsibilities Supervises laboratory activities to ensure that procedures are performed promptly, accurately, and precisely according to department and hospital policies and procedures. May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals. Ensures Compliance with the Regulatory Guidelines. BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
