Flexible; training schedule to be developed based on program needs and instructor availability About the Opportunity We are developing an innovative Community Health Worker workforce initiative in Connecticut and are seeking an experienced Community Health Worker Instructor / Trainer to support the delivery and development of CHW training. This opportunity is designed for someone who brings substantial real-world Community Health Worker experience together with the ability to teach, facilitate, mentor, and prepare others for effective community-based work. The initiative will maintain the relationship-centered foundation of traditional CHW practice while also exploring how practical technology and AI tools can strengthen areas such as resource navigation, research, outreach, action planning, information organization, and professional communication. What You Would Do The CHW Instructor / Trainer may: Deliver Community Health Worker instruction in a live virtual environment. Teach and reinforce Connecticut CHW core competencies. Facilitate interactive learning, discussion, exercises, and applied practice. Help learners connect classroom material to actual community-based CHW work. Support development and refinement of training materials and instructional activities. Evaluate learner understanding and provide constructive feedback. Participate in instructor planning, curriculum review, and program-development meetings. Help ensure training remains responsive to communities, employers, and the evolving CHW workforce. Work collaboratively with program leadership as the initiative develops. Who We Are Looking For We are especially interested in candidates who meet Connecticut's requirements for a CHW core instructor. For individuals entering the instructor pathway under the current Connecticut requirements, the ideal candidate will have: Current Connecticut Community Health Worker certification. At least three years of full-time experience working as a Community Health Worker. Completion of an approved CHW Core Competency Training program. Completion of the Connecticut CHW Trainer / Instructor Program , or current enrollment with the ability to complete the required training before beginning instruction. We also strongly encourage applications from individuals who were already serving as CHW instructors prior to November 3, 2022 , as different state requirements may apply to those instructors. Preferred Experience Strong candidates may also have experience with one or more of the following: Teaching or training Community Health Workers. Adult education or workforce training. Group facilitation. Supervising or mentoring CHWs. Community-based organizations. Public health or health-equity initiatives. Healthcare or clinical-community partnerships. Reentry, housing, behavioral health, social services, or resource navigation. Developing curriculum or training materials. Delivering virtual instruction. Working with diverse and historically underserved communities. A specific bachelor's or master's degree is not the primary qualification for this role . We are much more interested in documented CHW experience, appropriate Connecticut credentials, instructional qualifications, and the ability to effectively teach adults. Can translate experience into practical instruction. Communicates clearly and professionally. Is comfortable teaching adults with different educational and professional backgrounds. Encourages participation rather than simply lecturing. Can work independently while collaborating closely with program leadership. Is dependable, responsive, and comfortable working in an evolving program. Is curious about thoughtful uses of technology without losing the human-centered nature of CHW work. Remote Instruction Much of the anticipated instruction may be delivered virtually. Applicants may therefore reside anywhere in Connecticut, provided they meet applicable Connecticut CHW instructor requirements and can reliably participate in live online instruction and program meetings. Some future in-person training or meetings may be possible, but this position is being developed with virtual instruction as a significant component. Compensation Compensation will be based on qualifications, CHW instructional experience, employment structure, and the scope of the instructor's responsibilities. We are open to discussing either a part-time employment arrangement or an appropriate contract structure with highly qualified candidates.
