Job Description
Overview Join our dynamic clinical laboratory team as a Cytogenetic Technologist, where you will play a vital role in advancing genetic diagnostics and patient care. Duties Prepare and process specimens for cytogenetic analysis, including blood, bone marrow, and tissue samples, adhering to strict aseptic techniques and safety protocols Perform chromosome analysis using microscopy, karyotyping, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and other cytogenetic assays to detect genetic abnormalities Manage laboratory information systems (LIS) to accurately record data, track specimens, and generate detailed reports Conduct molecular techniques such as PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction), ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay), RNA extraction, DNA isolation, flow cytometry, and immunoassays for comprehensive genetic testing Implement laboratory quality control protocols to ensure accuracy, reproducibility, and compliance with CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations Assist in the development and validation of new assays and research protocols for clinical trials or research projects Maintain meticulous documentation of procedures, results, and instrument maintenance to support laboratory accreditation standards Operate medical laboratory equipment including microscopes, centrifuges, thermocyclers (for PCR), blood banking devices, and other specialized tools Qualifications Proven experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting specializing in cytogenetics or molecular diagnostics Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques such as chromosome analysis, FISH, PCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, and immunoassays Familiarity with laboratory management systems (LIS/Laboratory Information Management Systems) and data analysis skills for interpreting complex results Hands-on experience with specimen collection/processing including venipuncture (phlebotomy), blood sampling, and blood banking procedures Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy knowledge related to hematology and physiology principles relevant to diagnostic testing Ability to implement laboratory quality control measures while adhering to CLIA regulations and safety standards Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for managing multiple assays simultaneously Strong communication skills for collaborating with healthcare professionals and documenting findings clearly Join us in making a difference through cutting-edge genetic testing!
