Job Description

POSITION
: Clinical Dental Assistant
JOB CLASSIFICATINON

POSITION SUMMARY
Performs a variety of dental assisting duties, within compliance of state regulations, to promote quality dental care for patients in a stress-free, comfortable environment. Assists the doctor, teaches patients how to care for their teeth, communicates effectively with patients, maintains equipment and inventory, and follows universal precautions and all OSHA requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
DUTIES :
Review patients medical history Prepare patient, sterilize and disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials, and assist dentist during dental procedures. Take x-rays, take and pour up impressions, and apply fluoride and sealants Send out impressions to the dental lab Provide oral hygiene instructions, preventive dentistry & dietary counseling Induce, monitor, assist, and recover patients on nitrous oxide Record treatment information in patient records Perform instrument sterilization and infection control in the office Discuss treatment with parents using educational aids (ie
GURU, 3D
Tooth Models) Perform post-operative patient care (following up on patients receiving major restorative and extractions by the end of the business day) Clean and stock operatories Control inventory of clinical supplies Order tanks when O2, N2O2, and helium are empty Re-order tooth fairy letters Re-order extraction instruction letters Blow up balloons before the morning meeting Re-order balloons and balloon weights Keep bottled water stock in fridge Covering evening and weekend emergency on-call with a doctor Call in prescriptions to pharmacy/prepare prescriptions for patients in office Maintain at least 12 hours of CE credits within the calendar year Email X-rays/Referrals as needed Correspond with other offices to retrieve needed x-rays Send and scan relevant documents into document center (
Ex:
referrals, immediate faxes) Send referral letters to offices Assist with the In-Office Patient Contests Assist with the Continuing Care and follow-up systems Answer phones when needed/able Maintain office's emergency service through on call cell phone, carry home following week's schedule and/or remote into office computer to schedule pts accordingly Maintain CPR certification Maintain the appearance of the office Stay up to date on newest technology and technique in dentistry pertinent to the office and patient care Maintain equipment and coordinate repair as needed Stay up to date and committed to professional development (leadership books, teamwork, training) Be a hospitalitarian (offer beverages, parent and patient comfort) Maintain traps and suction lines for all 5 units and also vacuum/air compressor Maintain Cold sterilization Nitrous management, turning off and on every morning and evening Behavior Management NP1

IV Sedation Duties:
Familiarize and train in all IV sedation duties (chairside, beta, pt/parent cooperation) Print out and write surgery cases for each patient Prep night before by setting up IV sedation trays for each patient
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be in good physical condition and able to withstand the stress and demands of an active practice. Must be able to endure long hours of standing, walking, stooping, bending, and sitting. Manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, and adequate vision and hearing are needed in daily work. Must be able and willing to travel for continuing education and training.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
High school graduate Dental experience preferred CDA preferred Expanded Functions Certified including radiography
