Work Schedule :
Normal operations hours are Monday through Friday. We prioritize flexibility, health, and financial security, creating an environment where employees can thrive both professionally and personally. Under general supervision by a licensed dentist, perform general chairside and clinical functions related to patient dental care, as permitted by the Maryland COMAR regulation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform intraoral rinsing and aspiration procedures Retract oral tissues, including lips, cheeks, tongue, and flaps Place and remove materials used for isolation of the dentition (non-retentive materials only) Check for loose orthodontic bands Provide oral hygiene instructions to patients Perform intraoral photography Expose and process dental radiographs Take impressions for mouth guards or diagnostic casts Apply topical anesthesia Cure dental materials using a halogen light Assist with oral surgery procedures Assist with Endodontic procedures Assist with dental anesthesia procedures, as permitted, with exceptional proficiency Order, receive, and maintain inventory of clinical supplies and equipment Clean and maintain clinical equipment and properly dispose of materials after procedures Perform infection control procedures, including setting up disposable barriers and proper sharps handling Enter data and schedule follow-up appointments as needed Float between clinics based on operational needs Collaborate with the business manager and scheduling team to support clinic operations
Additional Duties:
In addition to your original duties as outlined in this job description, all Clinical Dental Assistants are required to float as needed between different departments to support staffing shortages and operational needs. Departments may include, but are not limited to: Orthodontics Pediatrics Oral Surgery Special Care & Geriatric Plus, Clinic Advanced General Dentistry Periodontics (tentatively) Prosthodontics(tentatively) Endodontics(tentatively) This requirement ensures flexibility and coverage to maintain high-quality patient care throughout UMSOD.
Qualifications:
0-3 years of experience in a dental or oral surgery setting (new grads welcome!) Current X-ray certification (required) CPR certification (required) DAANCE Certification is a plus Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to remain calm under pressure and provide compassionate care Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Proficiency with dental software is a plus

EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one years' related experience. Related education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
OTHER:
Employees in this job class must be CPR certified and are obligated to meet and maintain Maryland State requirements for dental radiography. Required Knowledge / Skills /
Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the principles of dental assisting theory, technique, and practice. Skill in procedures using sit-down four-handed dentistry techniques. Skill in the use of dental instruments and equipment. Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
