Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dependable, gentle, and team-oriented assistant who enjoys working with kids and young adults, can help them feel at ease, and communicates clearly with parents and staff. Responsibilities include chairside assisting, coronal polishing, taking digital X‑rays, maintaining sterilization and infection control, turning rooms efficiently, and helping support a positive, family-centered environment. This is a part-time position, 3 days a week: Mondays, Thursdays, Friday and Saturdays 9-2, with a pay range of $20-$28 per hour depending on experience. Candidates must hold a current NC Dental Assistant II status, be certified to take radiographs, and be able to perform coronal polishing; Spanish-speaking is highly recommended as we care for many Spanish-speaking families, and we will require a 2-3 hour working interview on a Saturdays to evaluate fit with our team and patients. Duties Prepare treatment rooms with dental instruments, supplies, and equipment, ensuring all tools are sterilized and ready for use in accordance with infection prevention management protocols. Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry, providing four-handed dentistry support for efficiency. Take high-quality dental x-rays and medical imaging using digital systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring patient safety and comfort while adhering to HIPAA regulations. Manage patient records accurately within electronic medical records (EMR) systems, documenting vital signs, medical history, and treatment details with precision. Oversee and monitor the proper use of Nitrous Oxide use, use of X-ray equipment and perform radiographic procedures following safety standards Educate patients on oral health practices, post-treatment care instructions, and answer questions related to dental procedures or equipment. Support the dental reception process by scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and managing patient flow efficiently using patient management software. Experience Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment with a focus on kids and young adults general dentistry or pediatric dentistry is highly preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in dental assisting tasks including dental instrument processing, sterilization procedures, and infection control practices. Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge relevant to oral surgery and endodontics, and familiarity with dental equipment such as 3D scanners is advantageous. Experience using Curve Hero is a plus. Strong understanding of healthcare infection prevention policies (HIPAA compliance), medical terminology, and clinical confidentiality policies. Ability to perform X-ray procedures safely while maintaining patient comfort and safety standards. Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members including dental receptionists and healthcare professionals.
