Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Dental Assistant to join our team for two Wednesdays each month in a correctional facility . This vital role supports the delivery of exceptional dental care by assisting dentists during patient procedures, managing clinical tasks, and ensuring a smooth workflow within our busy dental practice. Duties Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments and ensuring all necessary supplies are ready for procedures in accordance with infection prevention management and aseptic techniques. Assist dentists chairside during various procedures including general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and other specialties as needed. Take and develop dental x-rays and 3D scans while adhering to dental radiography safety standards and radiation safety protocols. Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring accurate documentation of medical history, vital signs, treatment notes, and medical imaging. Provide excellent patient care by explaining procedures, answering questions, and ensuring comfort throughout visits while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies. Support patient management software systems to schedule appointments, update medical documentation, and facilitate smooth patient flow within the practice. Follow all dental sterilization procedures for instruments and equipment to uphold infection control standards and ensure clinical safety. Assist with dental equipment operation including the use of dental chairs, handpieces, 3D scanners, and other clinical tools essential for delivering high-quality care. Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment by processing dental instruments efficiently and adhering to infection prevention policies. Support the dental team with administrative tasks such as checking patient vital signs, updating medical records, and managing patient flow during clinic hours. Experience Prior experience working in a dental clinic setting is highly preferred; familiarity with general dentistry procedures is essential. Proficiency in using EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix for managing medical records and documentation. Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, dental equipment operation, and infection control protocols is required. Experience with dental radiography including X-ray techniques and safety standards is necessary; certification in dental x-ray is a plus. Strong understanding of healthcare infection prevention and control practices including aseptic technique is essential. Ability to perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques in fast-paced environments. Familiarity with pediatric dentistry procedures or oral surgery support is advantageous but not mandatory.
