Job Description
Job Summary
The Dental Assistant will provide operational and administrative support to the Dentist/ Dental Residents. Assists the dentist in a variety of treatment procedures, including preparing the treatment room. Takes x-rays, collects and documents the patient's medical history, as well as blood pressure and pulse. Assists in the comfort of the patient before, during and after treatment. Provides the patients with instructions for oral care following dental treatment. She/he will also assist the Dental Resident in the EMR with charting and documentation.
Core Job Responsibilities Ensure equipment, instruments and appointment room are set up for patient care. Prepare patient for treatment by greeting the patient, escorting the patient to the treatment room, and making them feel at ease. Remain in treatment room with patient throughout their visit.
Take and record medical and dental histories and update personal information in patient's chart.
Take diagnostic x-rays.
Inform the providers when patient is ready for treatment. Assist the in suctioning, exams and new patient screening and other procedures as indicated in the NYS DA regulations.
Learn and use common dental terminology and types of dental procedures.
Assist the dentist and hygienist with patient exam, dental and periodontal charting.
Communicate oral hygiene instructions to patients.
Reinforce the treatment plan, provide preventive education and escort the patient back to the front reception area.
Assist in scheduling patients.
Clean, sanitize and maintain instruments, equipment and surfaces in compliance with MVHS Infection Control policies.
Take inventory of supplies and ensure functionality of dental equipment. Alert office manager, Lead Dental assistant or supervisor of any supply or maintenance needs.
Prioritize activities and assignments as to their relative importance.
Comply with all OSHA regulations, MVHS policies and applicable NYS regulations. Perform related duties as assigned. Education/Experience Requirements
