Responsibilities Assist dentists chairside during various procedures, including restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and oral surgery treatments. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental equipment, and ensuring all tools are ready for use according to infection prevention protocols. Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring proper technique and patient safety in compliance with HIPAA and other clinical confidentiality policies. Manage patient records accurately using electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, documenting treatment details and medical history thoroughly. Provide patient care by explaining procedures, taking vital signs, and addressing questions to foster comfort and trust throughout their visit. Maintain clinical cleanliness by following sterilization procedures for dental instruments and equipment, including 3D scanners and dental sterilization protocols. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and assisting the front desk as a dental receptionist when needed. Skills Proficiency with EMR system like OpenDental for efficient patient management. Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures across general dentistry disciplines including pediatric dentistry, endodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery. Experience with dental x-ray techniques, medical imaging, and the operation of dental equipment including 3D scanners. Expertise in infection prevention management, aseptic techniques, sterilization procedures, and healthcare infection control standards. Ability to perform chairside assisting using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance procedural efficiency. Familiarity with medical documentation practices and maintaining medical records securely in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members such as dental receptionists and other healthcare professionals. Knowledge of dental assisting best practices combined with a strong commitment to patient care and clinical confidentiality policies.
