Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) to join our dynamic dental team. In this vital role, you will perform advanced chairside procedures, assist with complex dental treatments, and ensure the highest standards of patient care and infection control. Your expertise will help streamline clinical operations, enhance patient experiences, and support the delivery of comprehensive dental services. Responsibilities Perform expanded functions including placing and finishing restorations, taking impressions, and applying sealants Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures Prepare and sterilize instruments and treatment rooms Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) Educate patients on oral hygiene and post-operative care Maintain accurate patient records and documentation Ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols Assist dentists during a wide range of procedures including restorations, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry with precision and efficiency. Conduct medical history review, and monitor patient comfort throughout treatment. Maintain strict infection control standards using aseptic techniques and proper sterilization procedures in accordance with OSHA guidelines. Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing patient flow as a dental receptionist, and maintaining organized medical records. Operate advanced imaging equipment like 3D scanners for diagnostics and treatment planning in general dentistry or prosthodontics cases. Demonstrate thorough knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to pediatric dentistry and other specialties. Skills Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for documentation and scheduling. (Dentrix Ascend is used in our practice) Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security. Experience with dental radiography including X-ray techniques for both adult and pediatric patients. Knowledge of infection control protocols, aseptic technique, and sterilization procedures within a dental clinic setting. Ability to perform chairside assisting confidently across various specialties including prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatrics. Familiarity with medical coding practices for accurate billing and insurance claims processing. Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages while demonstrating professionalism and empathy. Knowledge of medical imaging technology such as 3D scanners for comprehensive diagnostics. Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail in all tasks performed.
