Dental Hygienist

Duties:
Participate in continuing education activities to maintain licensure and remain current with evolving clinical standards and best practices. Manage and maintain patient recall and follow-up systems to support continuity of orthodontic and preventive care. Accurately document clinical findings, periodontal conditions, and oral abnormalities in patient records in compliance with HIPAA and regulatory requirements. Perform preventive clinical services, including dental prophylaxis and periodontal maintenance, to promote and maintain optimal oral health for orthodontic patients and the community. Take dental impressions, including digital impressions, for diagnostic and study models in support of orthodontic treatment planning. Assist with or conduct community dental health clinics to promote oral health education and expand access to care. Collect, review, and update comprehensive patient medical and dental histories to ensure safe and appropriate treatment planning. Examine and evaluate periodontal tissues using dental probes to identify gum recession, plaque accumulation, calculus deposits, and signs of periodontal disease. Remove plaque, calculus, and extrinsic stains from tooth surfaces and below the gumline using manual and ultrasonic instrumentation. Visually and manually assess gingival tissues for inflammation, sores, recession, or other signs of oral disease, and report clinical findings to the orthodontist as appropriate. Take, process, and develop dental radiographs in compliance with applicable state regulations and practice protocols. Apply preventive agents, including fluoride treatments, to reduce the risk of dental caries and support overall oral health during orthodontic treatment. Clean, sterilize, sharpen, and maintain dental instruments and equipment in accordance with OSHA guidelines and established infection control protocols. Perform periodontal maintenance and deliver preventive clinical care for patients undergoing active orthodontic treatment, and to provide clinical and patient education services aimed at promoting and maintaining optimal oral and periodontal health, while assisting with and supporting orthodontic procedures as directed and supervised by the orthodontist.
